EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUES
Based on a revolutionary discovery that all negative emotions can be attributed to a disruption in the body's energy system (the meridian system of ancient Eastern acupuncture), EFT can be considered a psychological version of acupuncture, using gentle tapping (acupressure) instead of needles.
The Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), often produces transformation at the deepest emotional level. It's a simple technique to learn, you can also use it by yourself so you remain in control and empowered.
At this stage, the link below will be open until early June 2010. Gary Craig, the founder of EFT has retired and is expected to be closing his site permanently. Please take this opportunity to explore his vast reservoir of information and practice until then.
Energy Psychology
Systems like EFT belong to the new field of Energy Psychology. This field of healing and personal change is still experimental and research is underway to explain what is abundantly clear in practice. It is still being explored and its limits are far from reached. Belief in the system is not a pre-requisite! The vast majority of people who use EFT have found that it produces greater emotional freedom and even physical relief from pain whether they believe in it or not. Users of EFT are encouraged to try it on anything and everything and persistence pays!
Development
About 20 years ago a Californian psychologist, Dr. Roger Callahan, had been treating a patient, "Mary" with conventional psychotherapy for a severe water phobia, over a period of 18 months with little success. He had also been studying the meridian system and access to it through acupuncture and acupressure.
During one session, Mary reported that the location of the feeling associated with her fear was in her stomach. Callahan knew the related meridian point and suggested she tap there with her fingers, surmising that it may help to balance any energy disruption. Mary did so and excitedly reported that not only had the feeling disappeared but so had the phobia - and to prove it, ran to splash water on her face. Her life-long phobia was gone and the precursor to EFT was born!
Further Development.
Callahan went on to develop a comprehensive and detailed therapy system for psychological problems using the meridian system and acupressure tapping points that produced extraordinary results in his work over many years. He called his system Thought Field Therapy (TFT)
Later, Gary Craig, whose interest was in performance coaching, learned TFT from Callahan. With his orientation as an engineer, Craig set out to simplify the complex system to cover all of the essential tapping points and still achieve the same amazing results. He further developed and enhanced Callahan's original system and it has become known as the Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT).
